bio
I contemplate the tangled relationship between nostalgia and identity under the weight of the sentimental, often burdensome past. My art is an incantation of lost moments, intimate secrets, fading youth, an ever persistent recollection of the past clouding my psyche. through expired film displayed on translucent banners, suspended sculptures using synthetic hair from my father’s beauty shop, and imagery of passed friends on wavering sheer silk, I weave together my understanding of self.
I draw influence from my experience as a child from a Korean / American immigrant family, film of my family’s unspoken past, and my own struggle with repetitive thought patterns from obsessive compulsive disorder.
Born in Augsburg, Germany, raised in Seoul, South Korea and predominantly Indianapolis, Indiana. Part of Big Car Collaborative’s Artist and Public Life Residency and Curatorial Committee for the Guichelaar Gallery.
